what we do and what we stand for
What We Do
The Shanaz Network was conceived to fully engage and empower women in the effort to prevent people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism.
We do this by safeguarding those who might be vulnerable to recruitment
by terrorists, challenging violent extremist narratives and working with key institutions to reduce the risk of radicalisation.
We achieve this in a variety of ways:
Projects
Through projects delivered by, or in partnership with Shanaz Network members.
Events
Prevent events are also hosted by or in partnership with Network members.
Consultancy
The Shanaz Network is also called upon as a consultative resource. In addition to the above activities, the Shanaz Network has agreed a number of strategic objectives for 2012. These have been identified as what the Network considers to be main gaps in women’s engagement in Prevent, which need to addressed from the outset:

These have been identified as what the Network considers to be main gaps in women’s engagement in Prevent, which need to addressed from the outset:
- Continually increase active Network membership and support, thereby
amplifying our voice and further enhancing our combined knowledge pool, skill
set and capacity for Prevent delivery. - Raise the profile of the Shanaz Network and increase our involvement in
Prevent activities locally, nationally and internationally through
effective partnerships at every level. - Identify support from female faith leaders.
- Build links with women in universities and disseminate Prevent
safeguarding.
